EN PLEIN AIR
Painting outdoors remains central to her process.
Working on location allows her to respond directly to shifting light, color relationships, and the subtle rhythms of the landscape.Allison Laupp is an award-winning plein air and pastel artist inspired by the light, atmosphere, and quiet beauty of the Midwest. Her work is rooted in observation, focusing on how value, shape, and subtle shifts in light work together to create paintings that feel both grounded and atmospheric.Working primarily in pastel, often en plein air, Allison is drawn to simplifying what she sees rather than overworking detail. Whether painting winding backroads, quiet creeks, open fields, or overlooked rural structures, her goal is less about recording a place exactly as it appears and more about capturing the feeling of being there.
Her work has received multiple awards in plein air and regional exhibitions, including multiple Best of Show honors, first place awards, and sponsor recognition throughout the Midwest. Her work is represented in galleries and held in private collections.

TEACHING
Alongside her own work, Allison is passionate about teaching and helping others learn how to truly see like an artist. Her workshops and classes focus on composition, value structure, observation, and simplification while encouraging artists to move beyond detail-first thinking and develop a stronger understanding of shape, light, and focal design.
Designed for both developing and experienced artists, her teaching emphasizes clear decision-making, confident beginnings, and a more thoughtful, intentional approach to painting.

When not painting or teaching, Allison spends much of her time raising her four children, biking the Katy Trail, exploring Missouri backroads, and following changing light across the landscape.
